Darren:

Foreign.

Marc:

Here we are.

Top 10 quiz number three.

You guys sat here, have no idea what to do.

But the people who've clicked on this know the title of it, so they already know what's coming.

Oh, yet you don't.

Paul:

No idea.

I haven't even got any notes.

Feel naked.

We're not naked though.

Marc:

So welcome to the movies.

In a nutshell.

Top 10 quiz number three.

Last time out, we were looking for the top 10 highest grossing franchises which Paul won victorious.

So make the series 2 nil to Paul.

Paul:

That was.

That was tight.

The last one though, it was close towards the end.

Marc:

There was a lot in it.

There was not a lot in that.

Today we're going in a slightly different direction because we're heading to the Academy Awards.

I feel like I failed already in that last episode.

We were looking up, we were mentioning Oscar nominations.

Yeah.

Paul:

That we didn't realize had been nominated.

Marc:

So this time we're looking for the most Oscar nominated actors and actresses of all time.

How are we feeling about this gentleman?

Paul:

Feel like I'm gonna fail.

Marc:

Okay, let's.

I'll tell you how this is gonna work.

As you might have guessed from the title, we're looking for the top 10.

Paul:

Have you a bag that I can hyperventilate into as I think of this?

Marc:

But there's a slight complication with this because a lot of people, there's a lot of actors on the same amount.

So what we're gonna do is we're just gonna.

The first point of view two to name 10 of the top.

It's.

It's this listed as top 25 because there's a lot of people on the same.

So as soon as one of you has reached 10 of that 25, you win.

Paul:

Are you keeping the tally?

Marc:

Yes.

So, yeah, so today rather than for the top 10, we're going to go through the list and the first one of you choosing to correctly name 10 of the top 25 will win.

You'll take turns naming an actor or an actress that appears on the list.

Every correct answer is worth 1 point.

The first person 10 points wins.

As always, feel free to play along if you're listening at home.

Grab a pen, get some notes on your phone and see if you can beat Darren or Paul.

Darren's looking very.

I don't know what that look was.

Darren:

I'm trying to remember an actor's name.

I suddenly had a blank of all good actors.

The actors, maybe they don't have to be good.

Paul:

I can think of about two and then I'm Out.

Marc:

Okay, so some stipulations and rules for this one.

We're counting acting nominations only.

So that's best actor, Best actress, Best supporting actor, Best supporting Actress.

So there's no nominations for writing, producing, or any other Oscar category.

Oh, well, we're using the official Academy Awards records, as always.

My decision is final.

Oh, so the master list.

So I've got the complete list of 25 in front of me, along with the number of nominations they've received.

So if you give me the name on the list, you'll get your point and I'll tell you how many nominations I received.

I've also got some trivia for each.

Paul:

Do we also get a cookie when.

When we get one?

Marc:

If you go home and bake them.

Yeah.

Paul:

See, I feel like you should do that.

Wouldn't that be cool, though, Like.

Oh, you got a point.

There's a cookie.

Darren:

Yeah, Brownies would be good.

Paul:

Yes.

Marc:

So we've got some.

There's interesting ones on the list.

So I've also got a few facts ready for.

Paul:

He completely ignored our food comments.

Marc:

I didn't hear that.

Paul:

He's so focused on the rules, he's missing our comedy food banter.

Marc:

Right, then.

Okay, who goes first?

Paul, you won the last one.

So you're going to give me a number between one or two first.

Paul:

I always lose this.

Okay.

Do I tell you the number?

Marc:

Yes.

Paul:

Two.

Marc:

It was one.

So Darren's going first every time.

Paul:

Every freaking time.

Marc:

And you still win, though.

Darren:

Well, Daniel Day Lewis.

Paul:

Ah, that's my.

That's.

I'm out now.

That's me done.

Marc:

No, he is not on the list.

Paul:

Daniel Day Lewis is not on the list of Oscar winners.

Marc:

Not in the top 25.

Darren:

It's gonna be a travesty.

How?

Paul:

What?

Marc:

He.

Paul:

What?

Oh, this.

This game's just not gonna go well, is it?

I'll throw out Tom Hanks just to see where we stand with all this.

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

Let us continue the.

Paul:

This is not gonna go well, then, is it?

How?

If Tom Hanks and Daniel Day Lewis aren't in these lists?

Marc:

This is nominations.

This is not wins.

Paul:

Oh, okay.

We weren't listening properly at the start, as usual, still.

But you still thought they'd have been nominated.

Darren:

All right, let's carry on with a bunch of old white men.

So Al Pacino.

Marc:

Yes, he's in there.

I saw him on this list somewhere.

Al Pacino is tied with a lot of other actors and actresses on eight.

Darren:

Nice.

Take that.

Marc:

His first four nominations came in consecutive years.

Supporting actor for the Godfather followed By best actor for Serpico.

Darren:

Yeah, yeah.

Marc:

The Godfather Part 2 and Dog Afternoon.

Darren:

Yeah.

Okay, you give me Pacino, I give you De Niro.

Paul:

That's what I'm gonna do.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do.

What he said De Niro.

Bobby.

Darren:

Yeah.

He was in Meet the.

He's got quite their talent, that guy Roberto.

Marc:

Yes.

He is also on eight.

Paul:

Ah, you see?

Darren:

Yeah.

Paul:

Knew that would happen.

Marc:

His first Oscar nomination was for supporting actor in the Godfather Part 2, where he played a young Vito Colleone.

Paul:

You haven't seen that yet.

Marc:

And he won.

No, I haven't seen that.

His second win came for best actor in Raging Bull.

Darren:

All right.

If there is a woman.

Fucking eight's a lot, though.

All right, if there is a woman who's got any chance of it, it's got to be Meryl Streep.

Surely.

Paul:

That's what I was thinking.

Marc:

Yes.

So.

So Meryl Streep is top 21 nominations.

Paul:

Holy shit.

Marc:

Miles ahead of anybody else.

Darren:

Nice.

Marc:

Let me go to my facts.

So Mel Streep, the most acting Oscar nominations by anyone in Academy history.

She has won three times.

Twice for best actress and once for supporting actress.

Darren:

Sugar.

She also goes way back to like Kramer versus Kramer.

Marc:

Right.

Darren:

That's my Streep and Sophie's Choice.

All right, so she's got decades of time.

So we need to be going for older people.

Really.

Marc:

Okay, so also, hang on.

But I need to go back to.

You said Al Pacino.

Darren:

Yeah.

Paul:

I'm gonna try another actress or act.

Am I allowed to call them actresses now?

Do I get cancelled for that?

Darren:

Act high.

Marc:

I wanted to go.

Paul:

I don't want to say for everyone,.

Marc:

But the way it's listed is obviously they have separate in the.

In the awards, don't they?

Darren:

So.

Paul:

Yeah, don't know I'm allowed to say anymore.

Sally Field.

Darren:

Ah, cute.

Marc:

No, she's not in there.

Darren:

You like me.

You actually like me.

Paul:

That's it.

How's the mask?

Darren:

Why do we know these things?

Paul:

I don't know.

Darren:

I don't know.

Paul:

And it's not helping with this quiz either.

Oh, well, that's.

That's that.

Try two.

Marc:

One to Darren.

Over to you, Darren.

Darren:

Okay, let's go throw a.

A DI choice in with Dental Washington.

Paul:

Oh, that one's gonna be my next one.

Son of a.

He's gonna be in the chat.

Marc:

Yes, he is in there with nine.

Tied with two other actors.

Three.

One to Darren.

Over to you, Paul.

Paul:

I knew this was gonna clear me out.

He finally got one but it took him ages, so maybe he was nominated lots.

Let's go with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Darren:

That's a good call.

Paul:

If he says no to this, I am out.

Darren:

It's got it.

Marc:

No, he's not in there.

Paul:

I'm out.

I'm done.

Enjoy the Quiz Boys.

Going home.

Darren:

He must be devastated every day.

Paul:

How did.

How did DiCaprio not end up in this list?

And Tom Hanks isn't in this list?

Yeah, this list.

Shit.

Just goes to show that awards are.

How is Daniel Day Lewis not in this list?

Marc:

Like Darren, back to you.

Paul:

I could have had another show, but I can't think of anyone.

Darren:

All right, let's go.

Chart and Heston.

Marc:

Nope.

Paul:

Oh, oh, oh.

Marc:

Over to you.

Paul:

I've just thought one, but probably inspired by what you just said.

How about Marlon Brando?

Marc:

Yes.

Paul:

Thank God for that.

Marc:

He is on eight.

Yeah.

Tied with a.

There's a big bunch there.

All on eight.

Paul:

Didn't he get one for the Godfather?

Marc:

Let me tell you, he won twice, but famously refused his best actor for the Godfather.

Sachin.

Little fellow appeared on his behalf at the ceremony.

Darren:

That's a low point in the history.

She's basically a Native American woman using the platform to raise awareness.

And the Academy booed her and yelled at her.

Marc:

Wow.

Darren:

It was pathetic.

Marc:

Right, so it's currently 3.

2 To Darren and we're over to Darren Michael Caine.

No.

Paul:

Come on, that's solid.

Darren:

Get Carter.

Alfie.

Paul:

Educating retail again.

Your answer may have inspired my answer.

Gene Hackman.

Darren:

Oh, good call.

Forgot he existed.

Marc:

No,.

Darren:

The Academy's got some explaining to me.

Paul:

This is the most frustrating of the quizzes so far.

Darren:

Yeah, I don't think it's.

Oh, okay.

So thinking out loud.

Clint Eastwood does a lot of tat, but he's also done some good movies.

I was thinking maybe like Bridges Over Madison County, Unforgiven.

So I reckon he could be.

Paul:

And he's got the history as well.

Don't forget he's got the history.

Darren:

He could maybe have six or seven.

So, yeah, let's go with Clint Eastwood.

Paul:

He just wanted to say 6, 7.

Marc:

I think he's got a thing going.

I say it in every episode because he said it.

Last three in a row.

The answer is no, he's not on there.

Darren:

What the fuck?

Paul:

I've never sworn so much.

This game's pointless.

Marc:

So just for context, the bottom group of.

On this list of 25 and a few are on 7.

Darren:

Right?

Marc:

So if you're saying people, they've got less than seven, they've had less than seven nominations, so it could be six, but they're not in the top 25.

Paul:

Okay, fine.

Darren:

I've got my next one.

Paul:

Good.

Good for you.

Marc:

Oh, bullied for you.

Paul:

That gives me an idea.

Good for you.

Christian Bale.

Darren:

Oh, that was the one.

Marc:

I was thinking.

Darren:

Oh, my God.

We like telepathy, right?

Paul:

He's not on the list, though.

Is.

Darren:

No, no, because I was thinking he was in Empire.

The Sun.

Paul:

Yeah.

Darren:

The Machinist.

Paul:

Yeah.

Darren:

American Psycho.

There's some movies he should have been nominated.

Paul:

And when I said good for you, it reminded me of his run on the Terminator.

Oh, good for you.

Darren:

Nice.

Paul:

Yeah.

Marc:

Still three.

Two to Darren.

Paul:

Not there.

Darren:

I felt like we were trying to get the British in there.

Paul:

I feel like we're thinking of the winners rather than the ones who've been nominated.

Darren:

Good company to be in because they did be nominated.

They've probably won one or two.

I would hope.

I still want to just go older.

All right, I have my next choice.

Marc:

Let's hear it.

Darren:

George Clooney.

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

You kidding me?

Paul:

Numb for Clooney up in there.

Marc:

Not none.

Just not.

Paul:

I know.

Darren:

Yeah, the age.

Although I guess he didn't start making good movies until dust or dawn and maybe 20 years or so.

Marc:

Over to Mr. Day.

Still three.

Two to Darren.

Darren:

Dude.

Paul:

How about.

I was gonna say John Goodman, but it feels like a wild card and he hasn't got enough nominations.

But I've said it now, so let's just go with that.

Marc:

And he's not on there.

Paul:

No.

Darren:

Have you said any women other than Meryl Streep?

Paul:

We said a couple.

Darren:

Who's the other one?

Paul:

Sally Field.

I should have said another one as well.

Darren:

I can't think of any Cate Blanchett film.

But she's an actress.

I just.

I don't want to be.

Paul:

That might be a good call, though, because she's the kind of one who maybe get.

Darren:

Exactly.

And because it's nominations.

I know women don't win as much as.

Actually.

No, this is the best.

Paul:

They have their own character.

Darren:

For sure.

Yeah.

Marc:

Yes, she is on 8.

Darren:

Be fun if she made Ocean's Nine, it got another Oscar.

Marc:

So she's won twice.

Best Supporting Actress for the Aviator and Best Actress for Blue Jasmine.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

She was also nominated for playing the same historical character, Queen Elizabeth, first in two different films.

Paul:

Cool.

When he's given the facts, I'm too busy sulking.

Darren:

I've got my next winning one.

Paul:

What if I've got it before you have?

Darren:

You haven't.

Marc:

That makes it 4:2 to Darren.

Over to you, Mr. Day.

Darren:

I've got twice as many points as you, Paul.

Paul:

I hate this game today.

He is very smooth.

See, I try and downplay it when I'm in the lead.

Darren goes the opposite when he's like, I am the king of the universe.

Right.

I'm going to throw it out there just because I love her and she'd never forgive me if I know she's married and about to have another kid.

But Anne Hathaway, that's fair.

Marc:

Anne Hathaway is not on the list.

Paul:

Stupid ass list.

How can Anne Hathaway not been nominated more?

Stupid list.

Darren:

I'm gonna say just because she'd hate me if I didn't.

And I think she's got another kid on the way.

Judi Dench.

Marc:

Yes, Judi Dench is.

Paul:

She was in my head as well.

Marc:

She's also got eight.

Paul:

Nice.

So we're basically naming old actors because they've got more nominations.

Marc:

100 Years.

Oh, just over 100 years.

Let me just give you the fact.

Paul:

I was going to give another one, but he's going to be like, oh, not in there.

Not enough nominations.

Darren:

It's five, two now.

Am I right?

Marc:

So, Judy Dench.

Paul:

I'm glad that I've won the last two because this is just not over yet.

Marc:

So Judi Dench, her nominations spanned both leading and supporting roles and she won supporting actress for Shakespeare in Love.

Interestingly, she and Kate Blanchett were both nominated for playing Queen Elizabeth, the first in the same year.

Darren:

I'm pretty sure in Shakespeare in Love she was in the film for like eight minutes.

Paul:

Yeah, she won a merch.

Darren:

She was phenomenal.

Marc:

She made the most of the eight minutes.

Okay, over to Mr. Day.

Paul:

I keep wanting to name younger actresses, so I'm gonna name one more younger one and then I'm giving up.

Darren:

Good.

Marc:

Because it's 5:2 to Darren.

Paul:

Yeah, I know.

He keeps telling me, I don't need you rubbing as well.

You're meant to be like, you know, impartial.

Impartial.

Marc:

I'm just reminding the listeners.

Paul:

No, but you're doing it in a smug way.

They're all doing in a smuggle.

You can't hear.

You can't see this.

We need to record this just so they can see the smugness coming across.

I'm going to go with Natalie Portman.

Marc:

Natalie Portman is not on the list.

You're just going for people you like.

Yeah, I know there's a flawed logic in your.

Paul:

I was going to throw Sandra Bullock in as well, but she's too young as well, so never mind.

Marc:

Over to Mr. Horn.

Darren:

Okay, let me think of films.

I just do this thing where I picture a film and I go through the cast.

Now they go on to the next film and go through the cast and.

Marc:

I forget to think about it.

Paul:

It seems to be working.

Darren:

So just trying to think if this guy's done any grown up films.

I think there's a chance Johnny Depp could be on that list.

Marc:

No, Johnny Depp is not on that list.

Okay, over to Mr. Day.

Paul:

Charlton Heston.

Darren:

Yeah.

Did I say Charlton Heston?

Marc:

No, no, nobody said it until him.

And he's wrong.

Darren:

All right, let's go back to just daydreaming about movies and see if I can think of anything.

Marc:

Summon something.

Darren:

Okay.

No, that guy's not gonna have got any nominations.

So let's think of another movie.

No.

Gary Oldman?

Marc:

No.

Darren:

Oh, Gary.

Paul:

This game's stupid.

I would have thought that would have been, well, up there.

Kirk Douglas.

Darren:

Oh, good choice.

Marc:

No.

Darren:

Good.

Paul:

Okay.

Darren:

Tony Curtis.

Marc:

No.

Paul:

Okay, so that.

That ploy's not actually working either, is it?

Okay, let me think outside the box again.

Oh, of course.

Jack Nicholson.

Marc:

No.

Darren:

Are you sure?

Yes.

Marc:

Sorry.

Jack Nicholson is on there.

Yes.

Sorry, I missed that one.

Paul:

I'm hanging on by a thread.

Marc:

Mark, don't do this to me for editing purposes.

Yes, Jack.

Nicholas is on there.

He is on 12 nominations tied with one other person.

Let me look at one for him.

So his 12 nominations are split between eight for best actor and four for supporting actor.

He's won three.

Okay, so that makes it five.

Three to Darren.

Over to Darren.

Darren:

Who is the guy in Bonnie and Clyde who is also the first of the song, you're so vain?

Paul:

Warren Beatty.

Darren:

Warren Beatty is my answer.

Marc:

No.

Paul:

Who's the one Elizabeth Taylor used to be on.

Off with Chat.

No, come on.

The one who had.

Oh, Richard Burton.

All right, Richard Burton.

Marc:

Yes, Richard Burton is on there.

Darren:

Interesting.

Marc:

Seven nominations.

Despite seven acting nominations, he never won competitively.

Paul:

Oh, damn it.

Darren:

Who was in All About Eve?

Was that Betty Davis?

Paul:

Yes.

Darren:

Betty Davis.

Marc:

Yes.

Darren:

Nice, nice.

Marc:

Ten nominations tied with one other actor.

Darren:

Nice.

Marc:

Right?

Matt Davis.

10.

All 10 of her Oscar nominations were for best actress.

She was never nominated in the supporting category.

Darren:

Great actress.

Marc:

Okay, Mr. Day.

Paul:

Audrey Hepburn.

Marc:

No.

Paul:

How the hell is Audrey Hepburn not on this list?

Darren:

I. I don't think she played many characters.

Really stretched it.

Is she?

Paul:

I don't care.

I just need a point so I feel less bad about life.

Marc:

Interesting.

Paul:

See, he gets to be Smug because he has all the answers in front of him.

Me and Darren just sat here sweating, thinking of six.

Marc:

Darren.

Darren's turn.

Darren:

Cuba Gooding Jr. No.

Hit the fuck.

I was just trying to keep it their best.

I noticed that all your choices, Paul, have been white.

What's that saying, huh?

Paul:

I feel like whatever I say now, I get canceled.

Thanks, Darren.

That's great.

It's been canceled.

Well, I'm trying to think of choices that might be in this damn list.

Darren:

Yeah.

Paul:

Halberry.

Not enough nominations.

Nope.

Thanks, Darren.

Wasted go.

But at least I come out because I thought that earlier.

But then I didn't go with it because she was too young.

And now I've just wasted a go and put you ahead another one.

Thanks for your.

Darren:

She'd have some, though, surely.

Paul:

She must have some.

Darren:

I mean, she'd have.

Paul:

She's won one.

Darren:

Yeah.

She's in Monster.

She was phenomenal.

Paul:

That was the one she won, I think.

Yeah, yeah.

Oh, no, that was Charlie Thron in Monster.

She was in Monsters.

Marc:

That's Halle Barry, isn't it?

Yeah.

Darren:

Oh, it's just this.

This whole game is just word association.

It's like, you say monsters ball, I say freaking Billy Bob thought.

Paul:

I know, but I had something in my head that I was aiming towards, and now I can't remember what it was.

Darren:

I wonder if Billy Bob or Angelina had many.

I can't see.

Oh.

Oh, I'm gonna go rogue with Steve Busami.

Marc:

Nope.

Paul:

Damn it, Cohen.

Rogue.

Darren:

Okay, I've got my next two.

Marc:

Wow.

Over to you.

Darren:

No, because I'm gonna say one of them, and Paul's gonna then be reminded of something he's gonna say.

Marc:

It seems to be working.

Okay, over to you, Paul Day.

Paul:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I want to say, but he never.

Marc:

Then say it.

Paul:

Tom Cruise.

Marc:

No.

I was surprised he wasn't on this.

Darren:

Okay, who played Magneto and Gandalf?

Paul:

Oh, why do I have to give you the answers and then you win the points?

Ian McKellen.

Darren:

Ian McKellen.

Marc:

No.

Darren:

Jesus.

Paul:

I'm kind of relieved.

Just in the sense that fell.

Brad Pitt.

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

Peter o'.

Toole.

Paul:

Yes.

Marc:

He has eight.

He's on.

He's on the big group on eight.

Darren:

He's a great actor in some phenomenal movies.

Also in a bit part in Stardust, which is probably the best thing in Stardust, which has got a lot of good parts in.

Plus he's at the beginning of High Spirits, one of the worst movies you'll ever see, but still worth seeing because it's got Peter at all in it.

And Liam Neeson and Steve Gottenberg.

Paul:

Stop naming actors when I'm trying to think of other actors.

Darren:

Steve Gotten Back might be on this list.

Marc:

He leads you down the garden path.

Paul:

That could be a good bet.

Marc:

Go on, say that, Paul.

Paul:

As much as I love Steve, I'm not gonna say that.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

So Peter o', Toole, eight nominations.

He received eight acting nominations without winning any.

He later received an honorary Oscar.

Darren:

Nice.

Paul:

Omar Sharif.

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

David Niven.

Marc:

Check closely because there's some names.

Paul:

Why are the old school ones I name not on the list and the ones you name on the list?

Marc:

Not Nevin's not on there.

Paul:

It's back to me again.

Darren:

Yep.

Marc:

Currently seven.

Three.

Now to Darren.

Paul:

Yeah, thanks for that.

Can you hear him laughing, listeners?

I feel like.

I feel like he's doing it in the studio just to put me off.

What about Redford?

Darren:

Oh, nice.

Paul:

Robert Redford.

Marc:

Robert Redford is not on the list.

Paul:

Not nice enough for now.

Darren:

It's like, check, isn't it?

Because now I've got to go.

Paul Newman.

Marc:

Yeah.

Paul:

No, right?

Marc:

Yes.

Paul Newman is on there with nine nominations.

Paul:

I'm not enjoying this game, this, this ping pong back and forth, but you seem to get all the ones on the board.

Marc:

Well, you've won two in a row, Paul.

You can't have it all your own way.

Paul:

Oh, yeah, two.

Darren:

I thought you would have gone Patrick.

Paul:

Stewart after I said no, because I figured if McKellen wasn't there otherwise.

Marc:

Right.

So Paul Newman, nine.

Nine nominations.

He won once for the Color of Money.

But his Oscar record also includes a best picture nomination as a producer for Rachel.

Rachel.

Darren:

All right.

Paul:

Well done.

Marc:

Well, okay.

Done now.

Eight.

Three to Darren.

Paul:

Yeah, I'm kind of flagging now.

Feel like I'm being destroyed.

How about Sean Connery?

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

I think he spent a decade doing like James and that weird one when he's a sci fi wearing a nappy.

Paul:

What's that one?

Darren:

I can't remember.

He's in space.

Marc:

Oh, what's that?

Darren:

And he's like, I don't remember that in High level.

Yeah.

Can't remember what that's called.

Paul:

I thought it was a long shot.

I just thought maybe with Intouchables and some of the other ones, he might have got one.

Darren:

And it's our thing.

He's probably done movies that we don't know that were worthy, you know, it's hard to know.

Paul:

It's like the Tom Cruise one.

You'd have thought the amount of films he's done.

I Mean, he got his Oscar for doing like, like, long service almost.

They gave him one for, didn't they?

Darren:

But should have got it from Magnolia.

That was Qually, right?

Who else is in Magnolia?

Oh, oh, I got two in mind.

I can't imagine a world where either of these are up there, but I'd love it if Ethan Hawke was up there.

Marc:

Nope.

Paul:

Yeah, I would have loved that, too.

Robert Duvall.

Marc:

Yes.

Paul:

Nice scrapes A point.

Marc:

Seven nominations.

He's in the bottom group.

Darren:

Hard to think of a Robert Davao movie, though, outside of Godfather.

Paul:

Big.

Oh, no, that's the other guy.

Darren:

What'd you say?

Paul:

I almost said Big, but I always used to get them.

Robert Logear.

Darren:

No.

Paul:

And him, I always got confused as a kid.

Darren:

Days of Thunder, he was in a.

Paul:

Film called the Judge.

Robert Downey.

That was really so Robert Duval.

Marc:

Seven nominations.

His first Oscar nomination was supporting actor for the Godfather.

And his only win came much later for Tender Mercies.

Darren:

Yeah, I haven't seen that.

He was in one of the Jack Reaches.

Paul:

Yeah, that's right.

I think it was the first one.

Marc:

Okay, so it is now 8, 4.

Darren:

Then my next choice has got to be James Khan.

Marc:

Nope.

Paul:

I was pondering that one.

I feel like he's too young and he's been banned by the Oscars for slapping Chris Rock.

But let's throw Will Smith in there.

Darren:

Oh, okay.

I was like, james can't.

Marc:

Didn't do that.

Paul:

No, he's too.

See, if you got too young, they're just not.

Marc:

Mr. Horn.

Darren:

Katherine Hepburn.

Marc:

Yes.

You said Audrey Hepburn.

Paul:

I know.

Marc:

Yes.

Katherine Hepburn has 12 nominations, so she's in the third.

Technically.

Third freaking Nicholson.

It's getting close.

Paul:

What, close to him winning for Darren.

Marc:

Yeah.

Right.

Paul:

So I've just thought 1.

Marc:

Katherine Hepburn.

12.

She.

She holds the record for the most best actress wins with four.

And remarkably, she didn't attend the ceremony to collect any of them.

Darren:

Yeah, she left to wear a dress.

Paul:

That's not good.

Marc:

There we go.

Right.

Mr. Day.

Paul:

So I'm trying not to waste my choices, but at the same time, I'm really flagging.

And he's got the edge on me now.

Marc:

Things are getting a little bit tense.

Paul:

You can't see the.

The expression he's making right now.

Oh, this makes me want to throw up.

No, it's old, but he's not gonna be old enough.

Harrison Ford?

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

Humphrey Bogart?

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

I thought.

I thought he would be up there with Hepan.

Paul:

Yeah.

It's a solid book.

Mind you, there's some of these old ones I thought would definitely be on the list and they're not there.

Like, I'm tempted to throw Marilyn morale.

But no, she won't be on the list.

So will she have I just give you another Dennis Hopper?

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

Oh, I don't know if he's made enough movies, but Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Marc:

Nope.

Darren:

Ah, shame.

Paul:

Kevin Costner for like, no.

Darren:

Robin Hood pits.

The Thieves who.

What other actors exist?

Marc:

Let's.

Let's write them all down.

Darren:

Jeff Bridges.

Yes.

Marc:

I literally, just looking at that category.

Darren has one, right?

Yes.

Just for that, Jeff Bridges had seven.

Paul:

Nominations, so that's a good call.

How did we not get to that when we did Goodman before?

Darren:

No, I got there, so I was going through Coen Brothers movies.

Marc:

So Jeff Bridges on Seven, his first nomination came when he was just 22 for the last Picture Show.

He eventually won for Crazy Heart.

Paul:

Oh, okay.

Darren:

That's quite an older, like a recent ish movie, isn't it?

That's after Fabulous Baker Boys.

Paul:

Oh, it's well after that.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

Okay, Should I read out the rest of them?

Paul:

Yeah, Put us out of misery, please.

Marc:

Okay, so Obviously, Mel Streep, 21.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

Way ahead.

Paul:

That's impressive.

Marc:

So there's the next one.

Bet Davis.

Darren:

Yeah.

Cool.

Marc:

Spencer Tracy.

Darren:

Oh, yeah.

Okay.

Marc:

Jack Lemon.

Darren:

Yeah, yeah, of course.

That means the other guy would have got it.

Marc:

Geraldine Page.

Darren:

Don't know who that is.

Marc:

He's on eight.

This is the eighth category about Walter.

Paul:

Matthew.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

Glenn Close.

Paul:

Glenn Close.

That's what I was trying to think of at one point.

Marc:

Ingrid Bergman.

Darren:

Okay, okay, I'm getting confused.

That's not a director.

That's.

That's a lady, isn't it?

Paul:

Casablanca in Grabberman.

Darren:

The Woman.

Marc:

Yeah, yeah.

Darren:

Didn't she go off and marry like a prince in Monaco or something?

Paul:

Yeah, I think so.

Darren:

So she didn't have a long career.

Paul:

No.

Darren:

Then she died in a car crash.

Paul:

I don't know.

Darren:

Ingmar Bergman.

Marc:

Oh, okay.

Darren:

Ingrid Bergman.

Marc:

Jane Fonda.

Darren:

Oh, nice.

Because she was really anti Vietnam and it kind of would turn against her.

Marc:

Greer Garson.

Darren:

Don't know really who this.

Marc:

Dustin Hoffman.

Hoffman.

He said.

Someone said of Philip Seymour Hoffman and.

Darren:

We said Tom Cruise could have easily gone right.

Paul:

Now I know I was circling around Hoffman at one point, and the last.

Marc:

One, which was the first name that came to my list, my head when I first had this idea was Kate Winslet.

Paul:

Winslet.

Marc:

Seven nominations.

Paul:

Should have known that one.

Darren:

Yeah, the British do okay, don't they?

Paul:

Yeah, Winslet.

Darren:

Just go over there, teach him how.

Paul:

To act, and then they take on all the superhero roles from the Americans.

Darren:

Yeah.

Paul:

Superman, Spider Man.

I'm shocked by.

A lot of people were on that list.

Marc:

Oh, miss One out.

Did I say Lawrence Olivier?

Paul:

No.

Yeah, okay, that makes sense.

Darren:

Olivier.

Great serious actor.

Marc:

Yes, very serious.

So there we go.

That was interesting.

I didn't think it was going to go that way.

Darren:

Oh, thanks for your faith in me.

Marc:

I didn't think it was going to be such a walk, Darren.

I thought Paul might have put up more of a fight.

Paul:

That was me fighting.

Marc:

But he's a lover, not a fighter.

Paul:

I feel absolutely demolished.

Just because you both keep rubbing it in that I lost.

Like, you really did do well there, Paul.

You really underperformed.

Darren:

You're really winning two one still.

Marc:

I just won.

Yeah.

You still win the series.

Paul:

I don't want to.

Do you know why I don't want to lose?

Darren:

No.

Because it's the only thing you've got going in your life.

I don't know.

Paul:

Yeah, that and the fact that you will rub it in forever in the smug way.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

Well, to finish off the quiz aspect.

So, Kate Winslet, seven nominations.

She has one win.

What do you think it was for Kate Winslet?

Darren:

Oscar.

I think it'll be a period thing like Little Women or something like that.

I don't know if she was in Little Women, but it's not the point.

Marc:

I'm just between the two.

Darren:

It's Corset Kate in it.

It's not going to be for Titanic.

Marc:

No, no, it's definitely not for Titanic.

Paul:

That won 11 Oscars.

But that's not the game we're playing today.

Marc:

It's the reader.

Darren:

Yeah.

This film about Nazis, isn't it?

That's how you get an Oscar.

Marc:

So Dustin Hoffman, he has two best actor wins.

Can you name them?

Darren:

Rayman.

Marc:

Yes.

Paul:

Meban.

Kramer versus Kramer.

Marc:

Yes.

Well done.

Trying to say Jane Fonda.

She's won both of her Oscars for best Actress.

Paul:

Darren's just thinking about Barbara Clute.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

Coming Home.

Darren:

Never had it either.

Marc:

Robert Duvall.

Oh, we saw that one.

Darren:

Outside of Godfather, I couldn't name a worthy film he's in.

Marc:

Richard Burton.

Darren:

I really don't know his movies at all.

Cat and a Hot Tin Roof.

Marc:

I'm just looking at the ones that actually mention what they've actually won.

Paul:

I'm kicking myself over Hoffman.

That seems like it's could have been a no.

But mind you, some of the ones you said, I swore would have been on there.

Like Daniel Day Lewis out.

Darren:

Yeah.

Paul:

I think when he said no to that one.

Darren:

That was me thrown, I think, in Affleck and Damon.

But I. I just was like, I don't have done enough movies.

Marc:

That's pretty much it.

So.

Yeah, well played by.

Paul:

That was good anytime it.

Well, even old movie stars who were in, like, very popular movies like Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise and all that kind of lot.

Set of things like Keanu's never really been Oscar.

Darren:

No.

Because he can't really act.

I love him.

Paul:

Darren Horn, get out of here.

Darren:

He's like Jason Statham.

Makes him look like a stage trained actor.

Paul:

Move along.

Darren:

I love Keanu Reeves.

Paul:

I know.

Darren:

I love him like Bill and Ted.

Paul:

No, but I'm trying to go through, like, popular actors who just don't go near, like, they make big films, but then they don't go anywhere near the Oscars, do they?

Marc:

Listeners, if you played.

If you played at home, let us know what.

How you did.

Did you do.

Did you get to the 10 quicker than these two?

Darren:

Has anyone done worse than Paul?

Marc:

Shots fired.

Paul:

This is why I hate this game.

Darren:

I'll forget all about it.

Marc:

So we'd love to know how you guys know.

Send us in your scores and we'll.

We'll read some out on.

On the next.

On the next show.

Paul:

The scars from this quiz are gonna echo in eternity.

Marc:

So final thoughts on the list, guys?

Any.

What was your biggest surprise?

Paul:

All of it, I don't think.

Darren:

I think it's just the ones who hadn't won anything.

It's surprising.

So they weren't really on the list.

That was kind of crazy, like.

No.

Who's the guy?

Paul:

I said Ian McKellen.

McAllen, Siri McKellar.

Darren:

McKellar, yeah.

Paul:

Met him.

Marc:

Anything that you're kicking yourself for?

Paul:

All of it.

Marc:

There was a couple of them where you were like, ow.

Paul:

Yeah.

Dustin was a big one.

Oh, Glenn Close as well.

Feel like I should have.

Darren:

Kathleen Turner.

Michael Douglas.

Marc:

Yeah, yeah.

Paul:

Did I say Kirk Douglas at one point?

Because I was thinking, then, do I do Michael?

But I thought, well, if Kirk's not on the list, then Michael's probably not.

Darren:

Yeah.

Marc:

So there we go.

I don't know about YouTube, but.

Well, I enjoyed it.

Do you enjoy it, Darren?

Darren:

Yeah, I enjoy crashing porn.

Paul:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I'm the only one who didn't enjoy it.

Max out there looking smug because he had the answers.

Darren sat there smug because he had the edge the whole way through.

And I just sat here getting crushed.

Marc:

He's still winning the series two one, though.

So if you listen to this, if you've got any future ideas for ones that we could do down the line.

Let us know any of the top 10 quizzes or lists and that we'll send them in and we'll.

If you give us any inspiration, we'll.

We'll give them a go.

So keep them coming in.

So we've hope you enjoyed this bonus edition of Movies In a Nutshell.

It's been a lot of fun.

I.

Look, I don't know about YouTube, but I look forward to the next one.

Paul:

Yes.

Marc:

Because I'm not involved.

Paul:

No.

They stress me out.

Marc:

If you would like to support the show, then give us a rating review in Apple Podcasts or Spotify or whatever.

You listen in.

Thank you very much.

This episode is officially over.

This is Mark saying we'll be back.

Darren:

This is Dan saying goodbye for now.

Paul:

Yeah, see you later.

Darren:

Ah, don't end it like that.

Marc:

Paul's got tears in his eyes.

Paul:

I just, you know, I'm gonna go away.

Darren:

You got three points.

Marc:

You got four.

Darren:

Wow.
